Central Córdoba Rally from Behind to Beat Unión Santa Fe 2-1 in Clausura Comeback

Central Córdoba Complete Comeback to Defeat Unión Santa Fe

Central Cordoba de Santiago came from behind to defeat Union Santa Fe 2-1 at Estadio 15 de Abril, overturning a half-time deficit in the Liga Profesional Argentina Clausura. Union led through L. Menossi, but second-half goals from M. Santos and F. Mansilla secured all three points for the visitors.

Unión Santa Fe Lead at the Break

Union Santa Fe made the stronger start and took the lead in the 17th minute. L. Menossi finished a move created by J. Palacios, giving the hosts an advantage that they carried into the interval.

The 1-0 scoreline reflected Union’s ability to make their early pressure count, although their lead proved fragile after the break. Central Cordoba remained within reach and returned from half-time with the greater attacking momentum.

Central Córdoba Turn Match Around

Central Cordoba changed the direction of the match quickly after the restart. M. Santos equalised in the 51st minute, restoring parity only six minutes into the second half and putting Union’s control of the contest under immediate pressure.

The visitors completed the turnaround in the 54th minute when F. Mansilla scored from L. Sequeira’s assist. Two goals in three minutes transformed a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead, and Central Cordoba held onto that advantage for the remainder of the match.

Goals, Cards and Key Performers

Menossi was central to Union’s most productive moment, scoring the opener before later receiving a yellow card in the 79th minute. Palacios also made an important contribution with the assist, though he was booked in the 90th minute as the home side attempted to respond.

Central Cordoba’s decisive contributors were Santos, whose equaliser reopened the match, and Mansilla, whose finish completed the comeback. Sequeira provided the winning assist and was cautioned in the 69th minute, while H. Tijanovich was booked in the 76th; Y. Casermeiro and S. Moyano also received late yellow cards. Union’s L. Vargas was cautioned in the 63rd minute.

Impact on Clausura Group A Standings

The result moved Central Cordoba from three points after three Clausura matches to six after four in Group A. Their record now stands at two wins and two defeats, an important improvement after a difficult Apertura in which they collected 16 points from 16 games.

Union remained on four Clausura points after four matches, with one win, one draw and two losses. The defeat extended a mixed recent sequence and left the hosts needing greater consistency after surrendering a half-time lead at home.
