Platense 1-1 Deportivo Riestra: Díaz’s 31-minute impact earns a draw

Platense and Deportivo Riestra drew 1-1 in the Liga Profesional Argentina Clausura, with both sides taking a point from Round 8. Platense led at half-time after Gonzalo Lencina’s 16th-minute goal, but Alexander Díaz equalised in the second half to secure the result for Riestra.

Lencina gives Platense the lead

Playing in a 4-2-3-1 under M. Palermo, Platense controlled much of the opening period and moved ahead after 16 minutes. Lencina finished a move assisted by Franco Zapiola Yamartino, giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

Deportivo Riestra, set up in a 5-4-1 by G. Duró, made an early change when Pedro Ramírez replaced Ignacio Gariglio in the 21st minute. The visitors also collected three first-half yellow cards: Milton Celiz in the 34th minute, Cristian Paz in the 41st, and Facundo Miño just before the interval.

Díaz restores parity

Riestra introduced Alexander Díaz for Nicolas Benegas in the 59th minute, and the substitute made an immediate impact on the scoreline. Díaz struck in the 71st minute, with Jonathan Goitia providing the assist, to make it 1-1.

Platense responded with a series of substitutions, including Maximiliano Amarfil for Martin Barrios and Celías Adán Ingenthron for Tomás Silva in the 65th minute. Guido Mainero and Augusto Lotti then came on for Kevin Retamar and Lencina in the 73rd minute. Amarfil was booked in the 81st minute, while Riestra coach Guillermo Duró was also shown a yellow card in the 69th minute. There were no red cards.

Platense had the greater share of possession

The statistics showed Platense as the more controlling team. They had 64% possession, completed 345 accurate passes compared with Riestra’s 129, and attempted 10 shots to the visitors’ six. Platense also led 7-5 in shots inside the box and 21-6 in free kicks.

However, those advantages did not produce a winning margin. Riestra recorded four shots on goal to Platense’s three, while both teams made three corner kicks. Platense also had five shots off target, whereas Riestra had none, underlining how the visitors’ more limited attack still produced the equaliser.

Table position and standout performer

In the Clausura Group A standings, Deportivo Riestra are listed ninth with eight points from seven matches, while Platense are 10th with the same total from seven games. The draw therefore kept the teams level on points in the supplied table, with Riestra holding the higher position and a goal difference of 1 compared with Platense’s -4.

Díaz was the standout performer, earning the highest rating of the match at 8.1. He played 31 minutes, scored once and registered one shot on target, making his second-half contribution decisive in changing the result.
